Accessibility Statement

Our Commitment

Because we serve the IDD community, we consider accessibility in a broader sense than typical guidelines. Our design standards also include:

  • Plain language that avoids clinical jargon and reading-level barriers
  • Cognitive accessibility — consistent layouts, clear labels, minimal dependence on memory
  • Flexibility — multiple ways to complete common tasks (voice, photo, text)
  • Respect for dignity — no infantilizing imagery or language; strength-based framing throughout
What We've Done

Current accessibility measures include:

  • Semantic HTML throughout the web platform
  • ARIA labels on interactive elements
  • Keyboard navigation for all core features
  • Visible focus indicators on all interactive elements
  • Minimum color contrast ratios of 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text and UI components
  • Scalable text up to 200% without loss of content or function
  • Alt text for meaningful images
  • Captions and transcripts for video content
  • Voice input support in the mobile app
  • Screen reader testing with VoiceOver (iOS, macOS), TalkBack (Android), and NVDA (Windows)
  • Reduced-motion settings that respect system preferences
  • Dark and light theme options
Compatibility

UCL is designed to work with:

  • Screen readers: VoiceOver, TalkBack, NVDA, JAWS
  • Voice control: Voice Control (iOS/macOS), Voice Access (Android), Dragon NaturallySpeaking
  • Magnification tools: built-in OS zoom, ZoomText
  • Switch control and alternative input devices
  • Recent versions of major browsers: Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Edge
Known Issues

We believe in being honest about what's not yet perfect. Current known accessibility gaps we are actively working on:

  • Some data visualizations do not yet have text-equivalent summaries for screen readers
  • Complex tables in agency reports need improved screen reader navigation
  • Some animation effects in marketing pages do not yet fully honor reduced-motion preferences
  • Spanish-language translation is in progress and not yet complete

We will update this list as issues are resolved and as new ones are identified.

We aim to respond within 2 business days and resolve critical accessibility issues within 30 days.

Alternative Access

If you need information or functionality that is not currently accessible, contact us and we will provide the information in an alternative format at no cost. This may include:

  • Read-aloud summaries over the phone
  • Printed large-type versions of key documents
  • One-on-one onboarding support by phone or video
Ongoing Review

We audit UCL for accessibility at least quarterly, with every major release, and in response to user reports. This statement was last reviewed on the date at the top of this page.

Formal Standards
  • WCAG: targeting 2.1 Level AA, with AAA where feasible
  • Section 508: following current requirements
  • California Unruh Civil Rights Act and similar state laws: compliance is ongoing

These documents are drafts prepared for attorney review. Do not publish as-is. A California-licensed attorney with SaaS, healthtech, and disability-services experience should review and localize these to your final service configuration, agency contracts, and state-specific requirements.
